2026 Social Commerce Predictions 🛍️

From rogue live selling to creators turning into long term ambassadors

January 6, 2026 Tobias Lindvall

Hi friends!

Welcome to the Year of the Horse 🐴. A fitting moment to gallop ahead so instead of another recap of the latest news, I asked a few colleagues for their predictions on where social commerce is actually heading in 2026.

Let’s predict the future.

Ryan’s Prediction:

Live Events are Becoming the New Storefront

Ryan predicts that live events will become the new storefront.

In 2026, I believe the real change won’t be doing live events. It’ll be how those moments get monetized.

In-person no longer means limited reach. Live events are becoming launchpads for global social commerce. The energy of being there creates instant FOMO, and that attention now converts in real time. What used to be a moment is now a transaction.

You can see the pattern forming. eBay’s Live Roadshow turns physical auctions into nationwide shopping events. ComicCon has evolved into a hybrid commerce environment. Media brands are leaning in because live audiences don’t just watch. They act.

The tech finally makes this practical. Brands are treating stores and pop-ups like content studios. Comment-to-DM flows, QR-driven carts, live panels that turn into checkouts. Local events with global reach.

As experiential budgets keep rising, the winners in 2026 will be the brands that stop treating live events as marketing and start treating them as storefronts. The next big drop won’t just happen online. It’ll happen live, and anyone watching will be able to buy.

Henry’sPrediction:

Creators will transition from promoters to ambassadors.

Henry predicts that creators will transition from promoters to ambassadors in 2026.

Why: The most memorable influencer partnerships today are ones that treat the creator like an ambassador to the brand. Nobody wants to see ad reads anymore - and UGC and affiliate are becoming their own verticals. True impact-driven influencer marketing is about recognizing the unique relationship that creators have with their followers, and making your brand feel like an organic part of it.

What this means:More brands will launch product lines in collaboration with influencers. We already saw this trend start to take off in 2025 with campaigns like Salish Matter x Sephora. Brands will also start to prioritize long-term partnerships. They will pick a small group of creators that truly align with their values, and they will show up in their content repeatedly, consistently, and in a variety of different ways. Influencers will be given more creative control, and companies will prioritize deeper, long-term connections with audiences who truly trust their creator ambassador.

My Prediction:

Off-the-cuff live shopping will take off for brands

Adidas on Whatnot?

In 2026, I predict brands will finally start to let go of scripted live shopping events. Not abandoning live shopping, but abandoning the idea that it needs to look rehearsed. More brands will dip their toes into environments that look closer to Whatnot than QVC. Less scripted. More conversational. More chaotic. More human.

My thinking: the most successful live commerce formats today don’t feel like campaigns. They feel like hangouts. Creators selling in real time, reacting to comments, going off-script, changing direction mid-stream. The trust comes from the lack of polish, not despite it. Whatnot proved that audiences will show up when the format feels participatory instead of performative.

Also, scripted live shopping is expensive. Production crews, sets, rehearsals, talent fees. The ROI rarely scales with the spend. Unscripted live formats flip that equation. Lower production costs, higher engagement, stronger conversion driven by presence rather than persuasion.

So expect 2026 to be the year brands stop trying to control the room and start learning how to host it. Live shopping will start looking more human and that’s exactly why it will finally work for brands.
